Can I Cancel/Change My Flight Without Fees?

Updated as of January 25, 2021

We are broadly waiving change fees for travel impacted by coronavirus, including any flights purchased before April 17, 2020, departing March 2020 through March 2021 and all tickets purchased March 1 through December 31, 2020.

If your travel is eligible for a waiver, you can move your travel dates and even select a new destination. Your unused ticket will be applied toward your new flight, and in some instances a fare difference will apply. If the new fare is lower, you will receive an eCredit for the difference. If the new fare is higher, the difference will be collected. The fare difference will be waived for changes to existing travel March through September 2020 if originally purchased before April 17th and traveling to the same destination before September 30, 2020.

Tickets originally purchased between March 1 and December 31, 2020, can be changed without a change fee* for up to a year** from the date you purchased it.

What are my next steps?

To provide you with flexibility for your travel plans, we're offering you the following options to choose what best fits your travel needs.

Change to a different flight:

  • If you select this option, we will waive any applicable change fee.**
  • To change your flight, visit My Trips on delta.com, select the flight you wish to change and then click on "Modify Flight."
  • Choose "Start Flight Change" and select which flight you would like to change to search for a new flight.
  • Note that the change fee will be waived; however, if there is a difference in price, a difference in fare may apply.***

You may choose to cancel your trip and use the value toward a future flight:

  • You may cancel your flight and apply any unused value of the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket for a period of one year from the original issue date.
  • The change fee will be waived; however, if there is a difference in price, the fare difference will apply for new travel dates and will be collected at the time of booking the new ticket.
  • To cancel your flight, visit My Trips on delta.com and click on "Modify Flight" then choose "Start Flight Cancellation."

In the event your selected flight is canceled by Delta, we will contact you with additional information.

*The change fee will be waived; however, if there is a difference in price, a difference in fare will apply. Notwithstanding any rules or ticketing policies to the contrary, if the newly selected flight is for the same travel dates, for the same origin and destination, and results in a lower ticket price, then the reissued ticket will be deemed issued at the same ticket price as the original ticket (i.e., any fare difference will not be issued in the form of a credit). Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity, one year from date of original issue. If travel is not able to be rescheduled within these guidelines, customers may cancel their reservation and apply any unused value of the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket for a period of one year from the original ticket issuance. Applicable fare difference will apply for new travel dates. Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity.

**Tickets purchased between March 1 and April 17, 2020, for travel before March 31, 2021, will be valid until December 31, 2022, and follow the “Existing Travel” guidelines outlined below.

***For tickets purchased on or before Jan 25, 2021, the fare difference will be waived for customers scheduled to travel to the U.S. through Feb 16, 2021, if you choose to rebook your travel to begin on or before Feb 1, 2021.

For tickets purchased before April 17, 2020, traveling between March 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021, the change fee is waived, and your ticket will be extended to rebook for travel until December 31, 2022.

If you purchased your ticket on or after April 17, 2020, our policy for "Travel Purchased Between March 1 and December 31, 2020" will apply.
